Daniel Riff will share the story of his grandfather, Morris, who grew up in the town of Oswiecim -- better known in German as Auschwitz. After the Nazis invaded, Morris was marched to the former Polish army camp nearby every day, where he and other local Jews prepared the site to become a concentration camp.

He then spent more than four years in several camps, including Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald, surviving extreme hunger, death marches, and a bullet wound. Immediately after the war, he met and married Daniel's grandmother -- both were the only survivors from their families.

Daniel Riff
Daniel is the grandson of four Holocaust survivors. Since 2013, he's organized Yom Hashoah programs to help people find connection and meaning in learning about the Holocaust, and he joined 3GNY's WEDU last fall to put the full narrative of his grandfather's life together to share with students. He also recently created a presentation based on his maternal grandmother's story of survival.

Daniel grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and currently lives in Brooklyn. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, and is currently a Program Manager at CLEAR -- helping offices and public venues reopen as safely as possible.
