The Perspectives trip was an eye opening journey into the complex and nuanced situation [in the region]. Learning about the multitudes of different angles of the situation from people at every level of the populace left me with much greater understanding and empathy. Each bit of knowledge gained opened my eyes to more areas where I still lacked understanding and, through my personal experiences and interactions with those who live it everyday, a drive to help others see past the simple answers and into the complex tangle of truths in Israel. ~ JM ‘23
This is a great, challenging trip. Come into it expecting to hear diverse opinions and be prepared to ask a lot of questions. ~ BB ‘25
What is Perspectives?
Perspectives is a 10-day trip to Israel and the Palestinian Territories for 15 non-Jewish and 5 Jewish student campus leaders at the University of Washington who are interested in deepening their knowledge about one of the world’s most discussed regions.
On this intentional, experiential, educational, and immersive trip, students explore and wrestle with the complexities and nuances of Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This highly selective program seeks students who are motivated to better understand Israel and Palestine and to share what they learn with the broader UW community. Throughout the journey, participants will be expected to ask challenging questions, engage in group discussions and reflection, and practice active listening.
Participants will be required to participate in intensive pre-trip orientation sessions during the spring quarter of 2023. The cohort will reconvene after the trip for follow-up programming during the 2023-24 academic year.

This trip was an amazing opportunity to visit a country with a rich history and amazing traditions. I was able to try so many things I’ve never done before and learned so much about the conflict in nuanced ways. The connections I built with the people on the trip were wonderful and it opened the door to hear so many stories from various people. ~ SVC ‘24
