JLAB AND E-BOARD:
Jewish Leadership Advisory Board: JLAB (year-long position)
JLAB works to carry out the vision of Hillel UW, acting as strategic partners with Hillel UW’s Director of Jewish Student Life. Members of JLAB will serve as the voice for Hillel UW, communicating student needs, interests, and concerns.
There are 5 members of this advisory board. There will be a student Chair of JLAB.
As a member of JLAB, you will:
- Come with a can do attitude and a genuine excitement for connecting students to Jewish life
- Meet weekly as a group on Fridays at 1:00 pm-2:00 pm with Ellie Rips, Director of Jewish Student Life, to offer feedback, advice, and suggestions around programming
- Commit to attending at least half of the Shabbat dinners at Hillel UW each quarter, regularly helping to facilitate Friday night blessings, make announcements, and staff the registration table as needed
- Engage in marketing and recruitment, including peer-to-peer outreach and use of personal social media
- Serve as a welcoming presence at Hillel events
- Staff a table on campus at least once per quarter
- Staff at least two Dawg Daze events (in late September)
- Support Hillel staff at programs as needed
- Attend a fall leadership training (date TBD)
Additionally, the Chair of JLAB will:
- Coordinate with Hillel UW’s RSO advisor as needed
- Work with the HUB for reservations only accessible to student representatives of RSOs
- Stay informed about upcoming programming at Hillel UW and on campus generally, and relay pertinent information to Hillel UW staff
- Encourage collaboration and promote partnerships with other groups on campus
- Model and support a positive, fun environment in which all student leaders can thrive
Requirements and Qualifications for JLAB members
You are a currently registered undergraduate student at the University of Washington. You understand the importance of serving the whole UW community. You have a deep desire to reach as many Jewish students as possible and are excited by Hillel UW’s engagement goals. You are a doer and understand that being a member of JLAB may include wearing many hats beyond your own job description. And you LOVE the work – you are committed to building Hillel UW and making this one of your top leadership priorities next academic year.
Engagement Board: E-Board (year-long position)
Hillel UW is excited to welcome a Springboard Fellow in 2023-2024 who will be responsible for student engagement and creative programming. The E-Board will work with the Springboard Fellow to design and staff on-campus tabling and programming.
There are 3 members of the E-Board.
As a member of the E-board, you will:
- Meet weekly as a group with the Springboard Fellow on Fridays from 12:00-1:00 pm to brainstorm how to meet students where they are on campus through pop ups, on-campus tabling, etc.
- Staff at least two events a quarter on campus
- Staff the Hillel UW table at the Dawg Daze RSO Fair (in late September)
- Actively engage with students 1:1 and at events
- Engage in marketing and recruitment, including use of personal social media and peer-to-peer outreach
- Support Springboard Fellow at programs as needed
- Attend a fall leadership training (date TBD)
Requirements and Qualifications for E-board members:
You are a currently registered undergraduate student at the University of Washington. You are an enthusiastic person who is good at small talk and understands that small talk can lead to getting to know people better and make them feel seen. You are eager to create a welcoming atmosphere for Jewish students at Hillel UW and to connect new people with other people. You are familiar with campus activities, geography, and buzz, and value the diversity of student experiences on campus. You aren’t afraid to walk up to someone in Red Square and start up a conversation; wear a funny hat to call attention to yourself; or invite people walking by your table to spin a wheel to get a free dreidel.
