Inside Jewish UKRAINE!

Thursday, October 27 to Sunday, January 01

Hillel UW is excited to announce a service trip to Ukraine with JDC Entwine! This is a 10 day opportunity to connect and engage with Jewish Ukraine and experience the life of a Jewish community around the world.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect and engage with young Jewish leaders in Odessa and Kiev, Ukraine’s biggest commercial port and capital. Through a combination of educational tours, conversations with local leadership, and meaningful service work, participants will learn about Ukraine’s rich Jewish history first-hand. They’ll experience both the renewal of Jewish life and the continued need for social services by volunteering with children and elderly and spend time together with Ukrainian college-aged Jewish peers, learning about Jewish life in their small but tight-knit communities and serving alongside JDC programs in the region.

This is an exceptional opportunity for students interested in foreign affairs, global Jewish culture, and international development.

Itinerary Highlights:
-Experience Ukraine first-hand through food, arts and a cross-cultural Shabbat experience with the local Jewish community
-Learn about the history of Jewish life and the current challenges in both, Kiev and Odessa through briefings with Diana Kudrik, Public Relations and Missions Coordinator, JDC Ukraine and visits to Babiy Yar, the Potemkin Steps, and Monument to Duke de Richelieu.
-Connect with Ukrainian college-aged peers, as well as college students from University of Washington Hillel.
-Lend a hand by performing service work in the Ukrainian Jewish community with the elderly, teens and children

Trip Dates: March 19-26, 2017

Participation Fee: $800 USD*
The trip cost includes:
-Roundtrip International Airfare from Seattle to Kiev/returning from Odessa
-Local transportation within Ukraine
-Meals/Hotel Accommodations (note: the participation fee covers accommodations in double or triple rooms)
-Site visits, briefings, tours, etc.
-Medical and emergency evacuation insurance
