2:00pm to 3:00pmJoin Rabbis Sandra Lawson and Isaama Goldstein-Stoll for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service on Zoom to mark Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the day when the enslaved people of Texas were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. On June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders outlawing slavery in Texas. Since that time, Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day) is celebrated annually on June 19th. 2020 marks its 155th anniversary. Event hosted by Be'chol Leshon, Keshet, and National Council of Jewish Women.
