Showing up for Black People in White Spaces

Julie Lythcott-Haims, writer, author, human, will share with Hillel students and their families her experience as a Black and biracial woman growing up in white spaces. She found that even as she accomplished so much—graduating from Stanford University and Harvard Law School, working as a corporate lawyer and as Stanford’s first-ever dean of freshmen—she still couldn’t escape the grip racism, discrimination, and microaggressions had on her sense of self.

Julie is married to a white Jewish man and has been immersed in the top echelons of college life.  She’s authored How to Raise an Adult, Real American and is now writing Your Turn: How to Be An Adult, for 18- to 35-year-olds. She understands the worlds and stages many of us are living in and is here to share her experiences with us in a way that will help us understand and grow.
